Plan B, Bangsar Village

SY has been raving about the Vietnamese Beef Noodles at Plan B (no association with the Plan B in Sydney) and so one night with SY (who's been craving the Vietnamese Beef Noodles) and the girls in tow we decided to head to Plan B for dinner.

Anti-clockwise from left: Duck Salad, Vietnamese Beef Noodles, Moroccan Lamb Meatballs w/ Spaghetti and the cover page for the menu.
EV had ordered the Duck Salad which was pretty good. A combination of grilled duck (I found the duck meat a tad dry) watercress, orange slices, lettuce leaves and pine nuts with a lovely slighty burnt orange dressing.  I had a taste of SY's Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup. The broth was fragrant and pretty tasty, and the meat finely sliced and tender as it should be. Am hoping to one day visit Vietnam for a Pho-liday! haha. The Moroccan Lamb Meatballs w/ Spaghetti was hearty with a delicious combination of Moroccan spices and tomatoes. This dish got me in the mood to cook (as I've not been cooking since I've been back to Malaysia) as I had made a similar dish whilst in Sydney.

Plan B's Alio Olio has a Malaysian twist with the inclusion of Chili Padi and Chilli Oil to the dish which was excellent! It really brings it up a notch. I'm going to try it out when I get to cooking one day.

Dessert time and we had decided to share 2 cakes between the 4 of us. We picked a Red Velvet Cake which I found tasted very much like a plain sponge cake with cream cheese frosting on top. Nothing particularly stands out with this cake.

Chocolate Banana Cake - Chocolate and bananas are always a good combination. Paired with caramalised almonds and walnuts makes this a deeply satisfying dessert to end the night.

Fullhouse, Sunway Giza

I've been to Sunway Giza a couple of times now and each time I'm there I tell myself that I have to go try Fullhouse one day. Why? Just cause it looks very cosy with a mock alfreso tea party garden setting even though this cafe is located indoors. And they also sell clothes and accessories on the 1st floor of the cafe too! Unfortunately I did not take any pictures of the place itself but you can check out  more pics here.

The family was all in KL one weekend and we decided to stop by Sunway Giza for tea and try out Fullhouse. I had order the Iced Korean Jujube Tea (the drink on the left) and loved it! With the heat and humidity in Malaysia it was nice to sit down to a nice cold refreshing drink that's also good for your health. Most commonly known in the Chinese community as Red Date it is widely drunk to help alleviate heat-iness from the body. Check out wikipedia for more info here. My sis had ordered Peppermint Tea and it came in a cute see-through teapot (pictured on the right above).

What's tea time without something sweet! We had ordered from anti-clockwise Tiramisu, Black Forest Chocolate Cup, Almond Chocolate Cake w/ Vanilla Ice Cream and Cappuccino. These were just so-so in my books. If I had to choose the best dessert I would go for the Tiramisu.

All in all the cafe had a pleasant atmosphere to just sit and relax after a long day of shopping although the desserts were nothing to shout about. Might come back to try the food one day.

Face to Face Noodle House, Taman Desa

I've been craving Pan Mee ever since I got back to Malaysia and finally after almost 2 months I get my fix. Pan mee has always held a special place in my heart as it brings back memories of my college days; housemates all squeezing into a car to go out for dinner (pan mee!). Unfortunately we didn't make it back to our old haunt but I'll definitely be making a trip back one day soon! Instead SY (college buddy / ex-housemate / BFF) brought me to an equally delicious pan mee eatery at Taman Desa.

Fried Wantan RM4.90 These didn't look exciting when they arrived. The wantan looked pretty small in size but the meat was definitely tasty.

House Specialty Pan Mee Soup RM5.60 Yum Yum. The soup was light and tasty, floury pieces just the right consistency and loving the meat balls and condiments. Maybe I'm getting too excited with my first taste of pan mee?

Casa del Rio, Melaka

I'm so excited about this unexpected find in Melaka!! Casa del Rio is a newly opened boutique hotel just a stone's throw away from Malacca's heritage center. Two days ago my dad, his business partner and myself had the opportunity to have lunch at The River Grill Restaurant. Read on to find out why I'm so excited about this find!

The day was warm but there was a nice breeze out so we decided to sit out on the veranda overlooking the Melaka river. We saw boats filled with excited school children shouting and waving at us, pass by. The River Grill definitely has a nice relax vibe just ideal for our lunch.

As we are quite small eaters we had ordered two sets of their lunch special which was a choice of starter and a main course or one main course and one dessert for RM 48. As these two men do not eat desserts we settle for two starters and two main dishes :( to share amongst the three of us.

Complimentary Bread - Beautifully soft and spongy. This went really well with the olive oil and vinegar provided.

For our first starter we had Crispy Potato w/ Smoke Salmon and Sour Cream. I've not had a good smoke salmon dish here in Melaka so this was like a breath of fresh air. The combination with baked potato skin and fresh red onions was an added bonus. Just delicious!

For the second starter we had ordered Chicken Kerabu which is a local salad. This was very fresh as I could taste all the components to this dish. This would also make a nice palette cleanser

Main dish - Nasi Goreng Kampung which, translated means Village Fried Rice or local style fried rice was not too bad. It had the feel of nasi goreng kampung but it's hard to beat the real deal that can be easily found along the many road side stalls in Melaka.

My favourite dish at Casa del Rio! Beef Sirloin, Spinach and Cod Ravioli w/ Sundried Tomato, Potato and Thyme Juice. The presentation received a big tick when the dish arrived. The sirloin was cut in two and layered with a grilled mushroom in between and topped with a deep fried spinach and cod ravioli. Everything on this plate was yum! I was further impressed by the fact that we ordered the steak cooked medium and it was really cooked to medium. Just looking at this pic is making my mouth water.

We had such a beautiful lunch. I will definitely be back!
